About Karnala Fort
Karnala fort (also called Funnel Hill is a hill fort in Raigad district about 10 km from Panvel city. Currently it is a protected place lying within the Karnala Bird Sanctuary. It was a fort of strategic importance as it overlooked the Bor pass which connected the Konkan coast to the interior of Maharashtra (Deccan Plateau) and was the main trade route between these areas.
Karnala fort actually consists of two forts one at a higher level and other lower. At the centre of the higher level is a 125 feet high basalt pillar. It is also called Pandu’s tower. This structure was used as watchtower when the fort was occupied however now it is in a ruined condition. The presence of bee hives also makes it difficult to climb and have resulted in at least one casualty in recent times. There is a water cistern which provides fresh water all year long. From the top the forts of Prabalgad, Manikgad, Haji Malang, Chanderi fort, Matheran, Sankshi fort, Dronagiri fort, and Rajmachi are clearly visible.

Itinerary
07:20 am Assembly at Panvel Station. Meet-up, freshen up.
07:30 am Move towards the base village in private / public transport
08:00 am Breakfast break enroute to energise for the trek
09:00 am Reach Karnala base. We will have an introduction round, brief on rules and regulations to be followed by everyone on the event.
09:00 am Start trekking.
11:00 am Summit the fort and explore for a while.
11.30 am After exploring the fort, we’ll have seft carried lunch and rest for a while.
12:30 pm Start descending towards base.
02:00 pm Reach base. Leave for Panvel.
03:00 pm Reach Mumbai and bid adieu with a promise to meet soon.

- All expenses incurred due to unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances like road blocks, bad weather.
Things to carry

- 2 Litres of water must
- Lunch for the day
- Good trekking shoes
- Extra pair of clothes, socks optional
- Cap, Camera as Optional
- 1 packet of electrol, enerzal, glucon-D
- Medications if required for individual
- Avoid wearing precious ornaments on an event, if possible
- And a haversack or backpack to put all the above things to be carried, so hands are free to help each other while trekking. Sling bags / jholas / trolley bags etc not allowed on the event. Please pack accordingly.
